- Tampons: Disposable products that absorb menstrual flow in the vagina.
History
Feminine hygiene has been a routine part of life for women since the beginning of recorded history, from lint used by ancient Greek women, to sanitary napkins in the 10th century. Although the tampon is a modern product, the idea of internally (inside the body) worn hygiene protection is not a new one and goes as far back as ancient times. For example, Egyptian women formed smooth papyrus into rolls that they inserted into their vaginas. Industrially manufactured tampons were first introduced to the market in the United States in the 1930s. Since then, billions of feminine hygiene products have been sold all over the world.
